“The one instrument approach and the variety of music I play even calms me down,” says Gorka. “I see my music as a refuge. I see it as a place where people can relax, take in the lyrics and I see it as a way for me to share that refuge.”

We are always thrilled to welcome John Gorka back to the Peterborough Folk Music stage, a place where he has shared his “refuge” of music and his brilliant singer-song-writing since the earliest days of the Folkway. John is a talented singer-songwriter who continues to evolve and grow, delighting audiences with his soul-stirring mix of old favorites and newly recorded work.
John’s career spans fifteen critically acclaimed albums, countless national and international tours, and collaborations with the likes of Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ani DiFranco, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin, and many more. Gorka’s newest/oldest recording BEFORE BEGINNING won an Indie Acoustic Award as best singer-songwriter record of 2016. What a nice thing to be recognized so long after its conception and recording back in 1985!
To quote one critic, Gorka brings us “wry, slice-of-life observations reminiscent of Lyle Lovett and John Prine.”
